The Billboard Project

Despite critical acclaim, weeks in Netflix's top 10 most-watched list, and a wide fan following, Dead Boy Detectives was cancelled in August of 2024 to a massive outcry from the viewers who loved it. Instead of taking the news lying down, fans across the globe pooled their money in a collaborative GoFundMe to purchase a billboard calling for the renewal of what has largely been hailed as one of Netflix's best shows of 2024.

The full amount was raised in less than two weeks, and our Save Dead Boy Detectives Billboard went up on October 14, 2024 on Vine Street in Hollywood, 5 minutes from Netflix Headquarters.

It’s debut was greeted with overwhelming support from fans, cast, and crew alike. Ruth Connell (The Night Nurse) visited it in person on November 2, 2024. It has been shared by showrunners Beth Schwartz and Steve Yockey on social media. Donna Preston (Despair) has shared it as well, offering support for our campaign and hope that the show can be saved. In Cameo appearances, George Rexstrew (Edwin) and Jayden Revri (Charles) have confirmed that the cast and crew are aware of its presence and are blown away by our efforts!

A New Record

But Dead Boy Detectives fans weren't finished yet.

When the billboard completed its run, the Save Dead Boy Detectives campaign took the renewal efforts one step further, aiming to set a record for the longest-running fan-funded billboard of all time.

This round of fundraising was complete in a breathtaking 72 hours, and the second run of the Save Dead Boy Detectives Billboard began on December 13, 2024, 5 minutes from the Netflix Headquarters at 5106 Hollywood Blvd and 5 minutes from the renowned tourist attraction the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

With this new fundraising triumph, the total run time for the billboard reached an incredible 8-week total, making fandom history!

A Very Happy Birthday

In addition to the billboards funded by the fandom at large, dbdagency of the Save Dead Boy Detectives Campaign began saving for a very special billboard honoring showrunner Steve Yockey.

On December 9, 2024, Steve Yockey's birthday, a special Steve Yockey edition of the billboard appeared in New York City's Times Square for 24 hours, to be seen by the 330,000 pedestrians that pass through one of the world's most visited tourist attractions.

Happy birthday, Steve! Thank you for helping to bring Dead Boy Detectives to the screen.
